Oh boo. Actually, it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. Our eldest got it the day we brought her brand new baby brother home from hospital. That was stressful!
I think the younger they get it the easier it is. We gave ours piriton/anti-histamine at night - it eased the itching and helped them sleep. Calamine lotion on the spots helps too. And As soon as the spots scab over you can go and be among people again! Good luck.
Oh best to get it out the way. Although my Boy got it twice! The first time was fine, the second was horrendous. The spots joined together forming huge lumps on his fingers, feet and bottom! We rushed him to Casualty as we had no idea what it was, and after about 6 nurses looked at it someone eventually confirmed it was chicken pox. It was really weird. Anyhoo, like Gillian says above, calpol, piriton syrup and calamine lotion. Good luck! x
Hi, We were on holiday in Cornwall, when P developed the pox, we used Calamine cream instead of the lotion, no difference between the two, except his skin absorbed the cream quicker and easier, and there was less of a palaver when applying it. Take care Maura
Oh no, good luck! Not one of my 3 have had it yet (Dex is 7) and they've been around it so many times that I feel like I'm constantly on pox watch! Once it's all over we should arrange that meet :)
Oh no! All three of mine have had it - all at differnt times too. I used Calpol and Bachs Rescue Remedy cream and calamine lotion. Prepare for it them to feel worse at night, so go to bed early and have everything on hand at your bedside. It's not fun but I do feel VERY happy now that it's all over!
Porridge Oats in muslin, run under the bath tap and voila a lovely, soothing milky bath. Apparently there is something called ViraSooth you can buy that's good if any turn a bit nasty.
Oh no! My daughter had it when she was quite little so it didn't really bother her too much in terms of the itching. Poor thing. Hope he gets better soon x
You have my sympathies, but I'm afraid I can't add anything to the advice offered above. My girls caught it within a day of each other, one was spottier than the other, but neither was particularly bad with it. Your experience may be easier than you fear.
Yeah, our Jamie caught it when he was 16 months, just shy of his 18 month vaccinations. I was soooo stressed out but it hardly bothered him at all. I hope he recovers soon too. Thinking of you guys, Lottie! Ronnie xo
